Heroin is the most dangerous drug in Great Britain?

An interesting video analysis of the comparative harm caused by various drugs including legal ones like alcohol.  The BBC’s conclusion is that heroin is the most dangerous drug because it can cause long term addiction and death from overdose.  However, they also believe that alcohol, if it were a new drug coming on to the market, would be classified as a very dangerous drug, too.

In fact, far more people die from alcoholism in Great Britain than from heroin or any other drug addiction.

Heroin in childrens’ cough syrup? Mommy needs a drug test kit!

According to Hotforwords.com, the Bayer company used to have a line of childrens’ cough syrup that contained heroin.  And we worry about a little gripe water!

What should you do when your pet gets high on marijuana?  Well, there aren’t any home drug testing kits for pets specifically but I would imagine that a urine or saliva sample from this dog would yield some interesting results on a drug screening.  You figure out how you’re going to get the sample.

Colombian farmers make cocaine with nasty chemicals.

It may look snow white, but pure cocaine gets that way only after a lot of processing with harsh chemicals.  Just because the cocaine paste is manufactured by small farmers in the jungles of central and South America doesn’t make it “natural”  It is a processed as white sugar.

The list of chemicals used in the processing from leaf to coca paste includes:

• ammonia
• lime
• diesel oil
• and sulfuric acid.

I hate to think what ingredients like these are doing to the local Colombian environment, not to mention the health of the farmers.  The farmers of course barely make enough to cover expenses.  Perhaps we need a “fair trade” cocaine market?!

National Geographic Video on the mechanics of meth addiction

As the video above says, meth amphetamine can seriously disrupt the body’s dopamine receptors.  Dopamine is one of the chemicals in the body that regulates feeling good.  Meth amphetamine overloads the dopamine circuits, causing the brain to react just like a fuse in your fuse box by shutting down the natural production of dopamine.    Eventually, the addict can feel nothing because the pleasure center of the brain is completely shut down.  They still crave the drug, but there is no relief.

If you suspect your kids are experimenting with drugs, make sure you talk to them about the dangers of meth amphetamine addiction.  There are home drug testing kits that screen for meth usage.  However, meth amphetamine is so addictive that as little as one hit can be enough to create an addict.  If the drug test comes back positive, you must realize that this is just the first step in a long process of recovery.

Why Detox Drinks for Drug Tests Are a Waste of Money

A good expose of the detox drink scam for passing drug tests.

Detox drinks contain mainly water and some creatine to help you retain that water.  If you want to try to scam the drug testing by diluting your urine sample, just drink water!  Save your money for the rehab you’re going to need later.

While diluting your urine may work for some of the older labs, many labs are updating their testing facilities and procedures.  How well do you know the lab doing the testing?  Probably not at all.  Is it worth the risk?  No.

This assumes that your employer is still doing urine sample drug testing.  Many employers are switching to either saliva sampling or hair analysis for their drug testing.  These tests are a lot harder to fool.  Click on these links to learn more about hair drug testing and saliva drug testing.

Hair Drug Test Gone Wrong

A word of warning – Drug testing personnel are not usually trained as hairdressers or beauticians.  If your employer requires you to take a hair sample drug test, ask the person doing the test exactly how much they need to take.  You don’t need to be scalped!

If you had the option of doing a home drug test, you wouldn’t have to worry about this possibility.   But that’s probably not going to happen unless you need to do some “pre-screening” before taking the employer test.  Just remember that hair drug testing is getting more common in the workplace because it can reveal long term drug use, and it’s difficult to scam the test.
